Conclusion: Congratulations on completing your explorer monument! You have discovered why it is still important to recognize the accomplishments of people from the past and how North America is different today. Now you can further your knowledge of your explorers by completing any of the two activities listed below. Extension Activities:
1. Write an essay comparing and contrasting today's explorations of space with the voyages of exploration that took place in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Point out similarities as well as differences. 2. Read two or more books about the same explorer, and compare the versions. Were any facts different? Did any of the books downplay his faults? Which version was the most fair in presenting both sides of the story? Make a graphic organizer to compare the versions by creating a web, Venn diagram, or power point to represent the differences.
